Isaiah 47:12-14-Stand now with your enchantments And the multitude of your sorceries, In which you have labored from your youth—Perhaps you will be able to profit, Perhaps you will prevail. 13  You are wearied in the multitude of your counsels; Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, And the monthly prognosticators Stand up and save you From what shall come upon you. 14  Behold, they shall be as stubble, The fire shall burn them; They shall not deliver themselves From the power of the flame; It shall not be a coal to be warmed by, Nor a fire to sit before!

For years, I have worked with numerous individuals who have believed in the practice of astrology. What is astrology, you may be asking? Well, astrology is the belief system which states that the events of a person’s life are influenced by the movement of the planets and their relative position to the stars, especially in regard to the moment that we were born.

“2. How does astrology supposedly work? Astrology supposedly “works” by the planets or stars affecting our lives. The main tool astrologers use for interpreting this alleged influence on our lives is the astrological chart, called a natal [birth] horoscope. (Strictly, the term horoscope also involves the interpretation (delineations) of the chart, although the terms “chart” and “horoscope” are used interchangeably.) This chart calculates the exact position of the heavenly bodies at the moment of birth, usually from the baby’s first breath. The baby’s first breath is crucial with most astrologers because they accept a premise of magic called “correspondences” (that everything in the heavens is correlated to everything on earth; thus, events in heaven parallel events on earth). Thus, for them the child’s first breath permanently “stamps” him with the corresponding heavenly stamp or pattern existing in the sky at that moment. It is this unique, impressed pattern stamped upon the child that astrologers believe determines one’s character and ultimately his destiny.” (John Weldon, John Ankerberg, The Facts on Astrology, 4-5 (Kindle Edition): Eugene, OR: Harvest House Publishers)

Throughout the Bible, God demonstrates His anger towards those who practice astrology. One reason for this is because astrology is tied directly to the false teaching and influence of fallen angels and demonic spirits.

Johnson has documented:

“The prophet Enoch mentions astrology was taught by some of the fallen angels. “Semyaza taught enchantments, and root-cuttings. Armaros taught how to resolve enchantments. Barakel taught astrology. Kokabel taught the constellations (signs). Temel taught the knowledge of the clouds (astrology). Asradel taught the courses of the moon.” Ancient Book of Enoch 8:3…One of the most interesting things for me in studying the ancient church fathers is how they witnessed. They went back to history books already ancient in their time to find the truth about the gods and goddesses worshipped by the Greeks and Romans. They found that those deities named Zeus, Hera, Hercules, Mars, Venus, Saturn and the like, were actually kings and queens who ruled shortly after the Flood. This worked well for showing the Greeks and Romans the truth, that they were worshiping false gods. For our purpose, though, let us see how they relate to astrology. The following is a brief description of these kings and queens from church fathers Lactantius, Divine Institutes; Tertullian, Gods of the Heathen; Arnobius, Against the Heathen; and secular historians:  Hesiod, Theognis; Apollodorus, Bibliotheca; and Pezron, Antiquities of Nations…. We have seen that ancient men who were sinners and themselves worshipped other gods, were in time deified by the ancient Greeks and Romans. They all died, but their graves still exist. Many of the church fathers used this information to witness to the pagans and to convert them. Ancient church father Clement summed it up well saying: “For instance, as I have mentioned already, in the Caucasian Mountains there is shown the tomb of a certain Kronos, a man, and a fierce monarch who slew his children. And the son of this man, called Zeus, became worse than his father; he committed many adulteries, and inflicted punishment on his father and uncles, and so died; and the Cretans show his tomb. And in Mesopotamia there lie buried a certain Helios at Atir, and a certain Selene at Carrhæ. A certain Hermes, a man, lies buried in Egypt; Ares in Thrace; Aphrodite in Cyprus; Æsculapius in Epidaurus; and the tombs of many other such persons are to be seen.” Clementine Homily 6.21…Our point would be this: the parts of the horoscope that are supposed to influence one’s love life, strife at work, and other things are based on the planets and the Greek gods and goddesses that they are named after and the attributes those gods and goddesses were known for. How is it then possible that I could be influenced, in any way, by a bunch of immoral dead people that are still in their graves?” (Ken Johnson, The Pre-Flood Origins of Astrology, 30, 48, 56-58 (Kindle Edition); Crane, MO: Defender Publishing)

Let’s not fall into the deception of astrology. The stars do not direct the universe, or our lives: but they bear witness of the Creator! And He calls us to obey Him.

Romans 1:24-25-Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, 25  who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

Lord, thank You for guiding us through Your Word. The stars bear witness of You, of Your greatness, and of Your love in directing our steps. Please help us to stay focused on You. Amen.
