Song Of Solomon 8:6-Set me as a seal upon your heart, As a seal upon your arm; For love is as strong as death, Jealousy as cruel as the grave; Its flames are flames of fire, A most vehement flame.

Nothing is as powerful as the power of love. This makes sense, because the Bible teaches that love is identified as the primary attribute of God (1 John 4:8). Throughout the Word of God, we are encouraged to take comfort in the knowledge that the love of God is our foundation in the midst of evil and suffering. Paul could tell our brothers and sisters at Rome:

Romans 8:25-39-Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36  As it is written: “FOR YOUR SAKE WE ARE KILLED ALL DAY LONG; WE ARE ACCOUNTED AS SHEEP FOR THE SLAUGHTER.” 37  Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. 38  For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39  nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

As an example of the strength of God’s love, consider the stone that was in front of the tomb of Jesus.

“The Scriptures portray angels as extremely powerful and mighty beings. Indeed, Psalm 103: 20 calls them “mighty ones who do his bidding.” Second Thessalonians 1: 7 refers to God’s “powerful angels.” We see an example of angelic strength in Matthew 28, where we read that an angel rolled away the giant stone at the sepulcher of Jesus (verses 2-7). Some people have estimated that a wheel of granite like the one that guarded the tomb—about eight feet in diameter and one foot thick—would weigh more than four tons (8000 pounds). 20 Yet an angel flipped the stone out of the way as if it were a mere pebble.” (Ron Rhodes, The Secret Life of Angels: Who They Are and How They Help Us, 85 (Kindle Edition): Eugene, OR; Harvest House Publishers)

Nothing can separate us from the love of Christ!

Father, thank You for the encouragement that Your love provides us. Help us to remember that not even death is as strong as You and Your love. Guide us today. Amen.
