Ephesians 2:-1-2-And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, 2 in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience,
Marsha (not her real name) was afraid to talk to anyone about what she had experienced.
She was especially apprehensive to speak with Christians.
A friend had told her that I am happy to meet and talk with anyone about the Lord, so she gave me an opportunity for a Bible study at a local restaurant.
You see, Marsha was afraid word would spread of what she was experiencing, and she was worried that her children would be taken from her. Her husband had left her (and the children) about a year earlier, and she had barely been able to get by with her full time job at a local restaurant and her part time job at the grocery store.
Some months earlier, out of frustration with the Lord and her personal life difficulties, Marsha renounced her Christian upbringing and embraced a form of witchcraft known as Wicca.
Then, things started changing….and I don’t mean for the better.
Not long after this lifestyle change, “something” began appearing in Marsha’s home. At first, it had the appearance of another person, and one that she was comfortable with.
However, things soon changed.
What led to our study was that it had appeared in her living room during the daytime after she put her boys on the school bus. It revealed to her it was an extraterrestrial alien from another world!
Then, everything went black.
The next memory Marsha had was getting her boys off of the school bus, nearly eight hours later. She had no memory of the events of that day. Frankly, she believed that she had been abducted by aliens and was terrified that “it” would come back.
She wanted an upfront answer:
Is there any help for me?
Many would simply claim that Marsha was using pharmaceutical or psychedelic drugs (legal or otherwise). Because I believe in being thorough, I asked her about that. She promised that she wasn’t under the influence. She was even willing for me to drug test her if I doubted her.
I also asked if she had any history of mental illness, and she told me she didn’t.
So….what happened with Marsha?
The answer may be found in the subject of spiritual warfare.
Surprising as it may seem to many in our day and age, encounters with UFOs (unidentified flying objects) are very often linked in one way or another with the world of the occult.
Some years back, the U.S. Government Printing Office issued a 400 page publication that was compiled by the Library of Congress for the Air Force Office of Scientific Research. It was entitled, “UFOs and Related Subjects: An Annotated Bibliography.” After extensive research notes on investigations into people who have had encounters with UFOs, the following startling admission was made:
“A large part of the available UFO literature is closely linked with mysticism and the metaphysical. It deals with subjects like mental telepathy, automatic writing and invisible entities as well as phenomena like poltergeist (ghost) manifestations and possession. Many of the UFO reports now being published in the popular press recount alleged incidents that are strikingly similar to demonic possession and psychic phenomena.”(9).” (Lynn E. Nor is this report alone in its scope. This is something which many modern day ufologists have been noticing.
“In the final years of his life, Dr. Hynek no longer believed in the extraterrestrial theory for the origin of UFOs. We had many conversations about the subject, and he expressed his doubts that UFOs were physical craft from other star systems.. To quote Dr. Hynek, “I have come to support less and less the idea that UFOs are nuts-and-bolts spacecrafts from other worlds. There are just too many things that go against that theory. To me, it seems ridiculous that a technologically advanced race would travel great distances to do relatively stupid things like stop cars, collect soil samples, and frighten people. I think we must begin to re-examine the evidence; we must look closer to home for the answer. I think we should consider that UFOs come from other dimensions, a parallel reality, a universe that exists in the same place as ours, but at a different frequency, so to speak.” Hynek also started to see the connection between UFO reports and certain types of psychic phenomena, because there are many UFO cases that have poltergeists, apparitions, strange sounds and lights, and other types of psychic manifestations attached to them. Over the many years that I have been researching the phenomenon, I have found this to be true. When I brought these things up to Marsha, she was shocked at the possible connections between her embrace of paganism and these terrifying events. As we kept studying and she learned of many of the evidences undergirding the Christian faith, she decided to reject her paganism and return to her walk with the Lord. I still remember as we prayed that day and her stated decision to begin attending church with us.
And Marsha’s visitor?
After she rededicated her life to the Lord Jesus, Marsha’s visitor never returned.
What to make of all this?
First, as more people in our country and around the world continue to hop on the “UFO are aliens from outer space and they are our friends” bandwagon, be mindful of the link between these encounters and the demonic world of the occult. There is a very real spiritual war taking place (Ephesians 6:10-18).
Second, Marsha’s reluctance to speak with Christians should be a wake up call to members of the church. People need to be able to recognize Christians as those that they can approach (Malachi 2:7).
Third, in all things, keep your focus on Jesus.
Lord, grant us wisdom as we live and walk in this world. Help those who not saved to see their need for You and Your Word. Please open doors for us to share the Gospel with them. Amen.
