Checks And Balances And The Bible

It is written:

Isaiah 33:22-  (For the LORD is our Judge, The LORD is our Lawgiver, The LORD is our King; He will save us);

I remember learning in Social Studies about the wisdom of the three branches of our government: the legislative, judicial, and executive. Each of these three segments of American democracy served as a necessary “checks and balances” on the others. It assured that no one branch of government would be able to seize unwarranted power. Amazingly, this idea of government was rooted in the Word of God. Ray Comfort informs us:

“4: 12 The idea for the American government’s divided powers came directly from Scripture. Isaiah 33: 22 says, “For the Lord is our Judge [the judicial branch], the Lord is our Lawgiver [the legislative branch], the Lord is our King [the executive branch].” Our Founding Fathers knew that separated powers were needed because of man’s inherent sinfulness and desire for control, and what better model could there be for a government than the Lord who governs the universe! “The teachings of the Bible are so interwoven and entwined with our whole civic and social life that it would be literally—I do not mean figuratively, I mean literally—impossible for us to figure out ourselves what life would be if these teachings were removed.” Theodore Roosevelt”. (Ray Comfort,Evidence Bible Complete, 48511-48517 (Kindle Edition): Alachua, FL: Bridge-Logos)

The genius of the origins of American democracy lies in the fact that it was rooted in the Word of God. We owe our freedoms as Americans first and foremost to God. How thankful we should be for this! Yet as wonderful as the American dream is, it is a pale imitation of the glory of Christ’s true kingdom, the church of Christ. Jesus and His ideal for the church are the desire of all the nations (Haggai 2:7).

Are you a member of the church of Christ?

Acts 2:38, 41, 47-Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit…Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them…..praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved.

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit, be with you all. Amen.
