It is written:
Matthew 10:9-10-Provide neither gold nor silver nor copper in your money belts, 10 nor bag for your journey, nor two tunics, nor sandals, nor staffs; for a worker is worthy of his food.
Again:
Mark 6:8-He commanded them to take nothing for the journey except a staff—no bag, no bread, no copper in their money belts—
Skeptics of the Bible often claim that there is a contradiction between the account of Matthew and Mark regarding the subject of the walking staff. It seems that Matthew says they are not to take a staff, whereas Mark seems to say that the disciples are permitted to take a staff. However, a study of the matter actually demonstrates that we need to read the passages more closely. When we do, the alleged difficulty is quickly resolved.
“303. Did Jesus tell His apostles to go barefoot and without a staff? Matthew 10: 10 and Luke 9: 3 say yes, but Mark 6: 8–9 says no. Failure to read the text carefully. No. Jesus told the disciples that they should not take extra supplies with them, because they would be provided with whatsoever they needed—“a worker is worthy of his support” (Matthew 10: 9–10). Hence, they should not bring two tunics, two pairs of sandals, or two staves (Matthew 10: 10). But it does not forbid wearing one pair of sandals, having one staff, and one tunic. All three passages confirm this. Luke 9: 3 says that they should not take “staves”—plural in the original Greek (in both the Matthew and Luke passage)—indicating that they should not have two staves, but one staff is acceptable. Mark 6: 8 states that a “staff” (singular in the Greek), e.g., one staff, is acceptable. And Mark 6: 9 indicates that they may wear sandals (but not carry an extra pair), but must not put on two tunics. So, all three passages are fully consistent.” (Dr. Jason Lisle, Keeping Faith in an Age of Reason: Refuting Alleged Bible Contradictions, 169-170 (Kindle Edition): Green Forest, AR: Master Books)
No true contradiction has ever been found within the pages of God’s holy Word.
The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit, be with you all. Amen.
