A Porn Addict Who Came To Understand The Grace Of God

It is written:

“For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich.” (2 Corinthians 8:9)

The word “grace” is truly beautiful. It conveys the idea of a gift that is totally undeserved by the recipient.

We see the essence of grace when we see Jesus Christ, Who lovingly left His Home in Heaven and came to to this world in order to die for sinners (1 Timothy 2:6), in the hope that they would be saved (1 Timothy 2:4) by coming to God through Him (1 Timothy 2:5).

One man, who struggled for years with an addiction to pornography, described how truly powerful the grace of Jesus Christ is.

“The most beautiful word in the Bible, in my opinion, is grace. Grace is the disproportionately generous blessing of God given to those who deserve nothing from Him but judgment. It’s His unconditional love and acceptance poured out on us solely because of what Jesus has done—not because of anything we have done to earn it. We are so unworthy of God’s grace, yet He gives it to us freely and unashamedly. Grace is the good news that more than makes up for all the bad news in this world. Grace Means You are Loved Unconditionally When you begin to experience God’s grace in your heart, it changes everything. You realize that He isn’t waiting for a better, future version of you to love. He loves you as you are right now (even if your pants are around your ankles). He doesn’t expect you to fix your junk before you come to Him. In fact, He wants you to come to Him with your junk so He can fix it for you. He knew all along you would be right where you are today—no matter how messed up you are—and He still chose to send Jesus to set you free. When you come to realize there is nothing you can do to make God stop loving you or pull away from you, it frees you from the fear of not measuring up. As Brennan Manning so eloquently stated: The only lasting freedom from self-consciousness comes from a profound awareness that God loves me as I am and not as I should be. 3”. There is no shame you have that is so depraved that God’s grace cannot save you.

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit, be with you all. Amen.
