It is written:
“The number of people on earth continued to increase. When these people had daughters, the sons of God saw how beautiful they were. So they chose the women they wanted. They married them, and the women had their children. Then the LORD said, “People are only human. I will not let my Spirit be troubled by them forever. I will let them live only 120 years.” During this time and also later, the Nephilim people lived in the land. They have been famous as powerful soldiers since ancient times.” (Genesis 6:1-4)
There are several non-inspired books which the Bible encourages readers to research. Some of these include the books of Jasher, Enoch, and Jubilees. Notice what these books teach us about the subject of the “sons of God” in Genesis 6, and the “nephilim” (giants) which they produced in their unions with the daughters of man.
1 Enoch 6:1-8-“It came to pass in those days that the children of men multiplied and beautiful and fair daughters were born unto them. 2 The angels, the sons of the heaven, saw and lusted after them, and said to one another, “Come, let us choose wives from among the children of men and beget children.” 3. And their leader, Semyaza, said to them, “I am afraid that you will not truly agree to do this deed, and I alone will have to pay the penalty of this great sin.” 4. They all answered him saying, “We should all swear to bind ourselves by a mutual oath not to abandon this plan, but to do this thing.” 5. So all together they bound themselves by an oath. There were two hundred, total, that descended in the days of Jared upon Ardis, the summit of Mount Hermon. 6. They called it Mount Hermon, because they had sworn and bound themselves by oath upon it. 7. These are the names of their leaders: Semyaza, their leader, Arakibal, Rameel, Akibeel, Tamiel, Ramuel, Danel, Ezeqeel, Barakel, Asael, Armaros, Batraal, Ananel, Zavebe, Samsapeel, Satarel, Turel, Yomyael, Sariel. 8These leaders led the rest of the two hundred angels.”
Later in the book of Enoch, we see that there may have been more then lust in the decision of these angels to mate with humans.
1 Enoch 54:6-“Michael, Gabriel, Raphael, and Phanuel will take hold of them on that great day, and cast them on that day into the burning furnace, that the Lord of Spirits may take vengeance on them for their unrighteousness in becoming subject to Satan and leading astray those who dwell on the earth.”
What happened to these 200 angels?
That will be the focus of our next study.
