It is written:
“For I have said, “Mercy shall be built up forever; Your faithfulness You shall establish in the very heavens.” 3 “I have made a covenant with My chosen, I have sworn to My servant David: 4 ‘Your seed I will establish forever, And build up your throne to all generations.’ ” Selah”. (Psalm 89:2-4)
There are some who teach that Christ cannot be reigning on the throne of David today, since the throne of David was in Jerusalem.
However, this Messiah prophecy from Psalms foretells that the throne of David upon which the Christ would reign would be established by God “in the very heavens.” The throne of David upon which Jesus rules now is in Heaven itself, not in the earthly city of Jerusalem!
“In support of the spiritualizing of David’s throne, consider Psalms 89: 2. “For I have said, Mercy shall be built up for ever: thy faithfulness shalt thou establish in the very heavens.” Verses 3 and 4 make it clear that the establishment of the throne of David is the “faithfulness” involved. Most commentators link verses 2-4 with verse 37 in such a manner that the sun and moon become the evidences of God’s faithfulness. But this is not the only possible construction that can be given to verse 2. The statement, “Thy faithfulness shalt thou establish in the very heavens” may mean that the throne of David would be established in heaven rather than on earth. At least God’s faithfulness is established there, rather than here on earth.” (Everett Carver, When Jesus Comes Again, 540-548 (Kindle Edition); Prestonsburg, KY: Reformation Publishers)
Jesus is reigning now upon His throne.
