It is written:
The fool has said in his heart,”There is no God.” They are corrupt, They have done abominable works, There is none who does good. (Psalm 14:1)
Many in our country have bought into the theory of evolution.
This is the notion that in the past, simpler forms of life evolved and eventually gave rise to mankind.
Several atheists that I have worked with through the years have claimed that the theory of evolution has been thoroughly proven.
They are quite shocked to hear the candid testimony of evolutionary scientists on the matter.
“Our willingness to accept scientific claims against common sense is the key to an understanding of the real struggle between science and the supernatural…. It is not that the methods and institutions of science somehow compel us to accept a material explanation of the phenomenal world, but, on the contrary, that we are forced by our a priori adherence to material causes to create an apparatus of investigation and a set of concepts that produce material explanations, no matter how counter-intuitive, no matter how mystifying to the uninitiated. Moreover, that materialism is absolute, FOR WE CANNOT ALLOW A DIVINE FOOT IN THE DOOR.” (Richard Lewontin, “Billions and Billions of Demons,” The New York Review, p. 31, January 9, 1997-emphasis added, M.A.T.)
Please notice that the evolutionist does not accept his position because the evidence leads to the conclusion that evolution is true. Rather, evolutionists accept this philosophy of life because they “cannot allow a Divine foot in the door” (even though the evidence points to the conclusion that there is a God, and His foot is in the door whether people want it there or not).
Nor is Lewotin alone in his claims:
“Writing in Nature as long ago as 1929, biologist D. M. S. Watson brazenly conceded, ‘The theory of evolution itself [is] a theory universally accepted, not because it can be proved by logically coherent evidence to be true, but because the only alternative is special creation, which is clearly incredible’113 (emphasis added). The palaeontologist L. T. More, of the University of Chicago, has said much the same thing: ‘Our faith in the idea of evolution depends upon our reluctance to accept the antagonistic doctrine of special creation.’114 So has the eminent British anthropologist Sir Arthur Keith: ‘Evolution is unproved and unprovable. We believe it only because the alternative is special creation, which is unthinkable’115 (emphasis added).” (John Blanchard, Does God Believe In Atheists? 2383-2394 (Kindle Edition); Carlisle, PA; EP Books USA)
When one carefully examines the universe, he will come to the logical conclusion: there must be a God.
Antony Flew was the world’s most renowned (former) atheist. After a lifetime of study, Flew finally came to the conclusion that there must be a Creator.
“I now believe that the universe was brought into existence by an infinite Intelligence. I believe that this universe’s intricate laws manifest what scientists have called the Mind of God. I believe that life and reproduction originate in a divine Source. Why do I believe this, given that I expounded and defended atheism for more than a half century? The short answer is this: this is the world picture, as I see it, that has emerged from modern science. Science spotlights three dimensions of nature that point to God. The first is the fact that nature obeys laws. The second is the dimension of life, of intelligently organized and purpose-driven beings, which arose from matter. The third is the very existence of nature. But it is not science alone that has guided me. I have also been helped by a renewed study of the classical philosophical arguments. My departure from atheism was not occasioned by any new phenomenon or argument. Over the last two decades, my whole framework of thought has been in a state of migration. This was a consequence of my continuing assessment of the evidence of nature. When I finally came to recognize the existence of a God, it was not a paradigm shift, because my paradigm remains, as Plato in his Republic scripted his Socrates to insist: “We must follow the argument wherever it leads.” (Antony Flew & Roy Abraham Varghese, There Is a God: How the World’s Most Notorious Atheist Changed His Mind by Antony Flew, 88-89 (Kindle Edition); New York, NY; Harper Collins Publishers, Inc.)
Near the end of his book, Flew wrote:
“But the three items of evidence we have considered in this volume—the laws of nature, life with its teleological organization, and the existence of the universe—can only be explained in the light of an Intelligence that explains both its own existence and that of the world. Such a discovery of the Divine does not come through experiments and equations, but through an understanding of the structures they unveil and map. Now, all this might sound abstract and impersonal. How, it might be asked, do I as a person respond to the discovery of an ultimate Reality that is an omnipresent and omniscient Spirit? I must say again that the journey to my discovery of the Divine has thus far been a pilgrimage of reason. I have followed the argument where it has led me. And it has led me to accept the existence of a self-existent, immutable, immaterial, omnipotent, and omniscient Being.” (Antony Flew & Roy Abraham Varghese, There Is a God: How the World’s Most Notorious Atheist Changed His Mind by Antony Flew, 155 (Kindle Edition); New York, NY; Harper Collins Publishers, Inc.)
The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit, be with you all. Amen.
