Paganism Seven

(NOTE: Some of the themes of these articles may not be appropriate for young readers. Please keep that in mind when sharing this information).

It is written:

“The entirety of Your word is truth, And every one of Your righteous judgments endures forever.” (Psalm 119:160)

When I study with my pagan friends, I try and present them evidence that the Bible is the Word of God. Many of them have been told that Christians are just mindless bumpkins who accept what they believe without proof. They have not been taught that true faith is the “evidence of things unseen” (Hebrews 11:1).

For example, I was blessed to recently baptize a young woman who had been a pagan for most of her life. Worshiping the Greek pantheon of gods, she had never before encountered some of the powerful testimony that the Bible is truly the Word of God that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. I never will forget as we were going over a PowerPoint lesson on Archaeology And The Bible, she turned to her friend and exclaimed, “I have never heard this! I’m starting to have faith in the God of the Bible!”

This has been an experience that I have been blessed to be part of with many men and women as we have looked at the evidence of Christianity. We as Christians are commanded to give a logical and rational defense to those who are unbelievers (1 Peter 3:15). That word “defense” carried a very important meaning.

“The word was often used of the argument for the defense in a court of law, and though the word may have the idea of a judicial interrogation in which one is called to answer for the manner in which he has exercised his responsibility (Beare), the word can also mean an informal explanation or defense of one’s position.  The word would aptly describe giving an answer to the skeptical, abusive, or derisive inquiries of ill-disposed neighbors (Kelly)  (Cleon Rogers II and III, The New Linguistic And Exegetical Key To The Greek New Testament, 575; Grand Rapids, Michigan, Zondervan Publishing House).

In order to demonstrate to my pagan friends that the Bible is the Word of God, I utilize the following argument:

1. If the Bible contains characteristics which may only be explained by Divine inspiration, then the Bible is the Word of God.

2. The Bible does contain characteristics which may only be explained by Divine inspiration.

3. Therefore, the Bible is the Word of God.

This argument is in valid format, which means that each premise logically follows the other so that if the premises are sound, then the conclusion MUST follow.

With that in mind, let’s notice evidences which show that the Bible is, indeed, the Word of God.
