Wald’s Admission And Why Evolution Is Accepted By So Many

By: Mark Tabata (Evangelist)

One of the questions that I am often asked is, “Mark, if the theory of macroevolution is not true, why do so many scientists accept it?”

On the surface, this question reveals many presuppositions.

First, it assumes that the majority of scientists accept this theory. Yet, when we examine the writings of scientists spanning the globe over the last several hundred years, evolutionists would be hard-pressed to prove this contention.

Second, even if it were true that the majority of scientists accepted the theory of evolution, would that mean that they are correct?

Remember that that there was a time when a large consensus of scientists held to the “fact” that the Earth was flat (even though the Bible pointed out that it was spherical long before these scientists’ contentions, and the Bible was proven correct and the scientists wrong, as has always been the case when true scientific advance is made).

Third, even if it true that a majority of scientists believes in the theory of evolution, do they accept that because that is where the evidence leads them? Or, do they accept evolution because of other reasons?

Allow an evolutionary scientist who won the Nobel Prize to answer those last two questions.

In order for evolution to occur, there must have been a point in time where non-living materials gave rise to life. This is known as spontaneous generation, or abiogenesis.

The big problem, of course, is that in over one hundred and fifty years of scientific studies, it has been well established that spontaneous generation is impossible.

 It cannot happen.

As a result, the theory of evolution cannot even get started.

Recognizing this problem, George Wald then explains why so many evolutionists continue to hold to their belief (i.e., their blind faith):
““There are only two possibilities as to how life arose. One is spontaneous generation arising to evolution; the other is a supernatural creative act of God. There is no third possibility. Spontaneous generation, that life arose from non-living matter, was scientifically disproved 120 years ago by Louis Pasteur and others. “That leaves us with the only possible conclusion that life arose as a supernatural creative act of God. I will not accept that philosophically because I do not want to believe in God. Therefore, I choose to believe in that which I know is scientifically impossible; spontaneous generation arising to evolution.” – (George Wald, Nobel prize winner for medicine, “The Origin of Life. Scientific American,” August, 1954. pp. 44-53.)
Pretty straightforward isn’t it?

Please notice that Wald was honest regarding the subject.

Spontaneous generation is impossible, and this inevitably leads to the conclusion that macroevolution is impossible.

Yet instead of allowing these facts to lead him to the conclusion that God exists, he instead chooses to accept that which is scientifically impossible: spontaneous generation.

Why? For the simple reason that he had already made up his mind that he was not going to accept God’s existence.

How tragic!

Observe also that Wald clearly understood the link between abiogenesis and evolution.

Many skeptics like to pretend that spontaneous generation and the origin of life has nothing at all to do with the theory of evolution. Wald did not try to sidestep the issue; he freely and willingly pointed out that connection between the two.

Furthermore, as I have asked several evolutionists time after time (and have yet to receive an answer), how can you claim that an organism can evolve unless you first explain how it is living to begin with?

Friends, the science always points us to the conclusion that God exists.

What’s more, there is overwhelming evidence that the Bible is God’s Word and that Jesus Christ is His Son. Why not today turn your life to Him and be saved?

Believers are called upon to repent of sin and have their sins washed away in baptism (Acts 2:38; 22:16).

If you are an erring child of God, I encourage you to repent of your sin and pray for forgiveness (Acts 8:22; 1 John 1:9).

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen.
