Extra Dimensions And The Spirit World

By: Mark Tabata (Evangelist)

From beginning to end, the Bible teaches that there is a spiritual realm which intersects and interferes with our physical plane (cf. Daniel 10:12-13; Ephesians 6:10-18; Revelation 12:7-12).

Through the years, skeptics of the Bible have mocked the teaching of the Scriptures regarding this spiritual world; yet it is fascinating to note that the findings of modern science provide further confirmation of the Bible in many ways regarding this subject.

In this article, I would like to share with you how the findings of modern science-in the discovery of higher dimensions-shed fascinating light on this subject.

One author has written about the discoveries of these multiple dimensions which humanity cannot readily empirically detect, but which science and mathematics are documenting are truly existent:

“Now it is time to see why even our four-dimensional world of space and time may be part of a larger multidimensional world, several of whose dimensions are hidden from us. This idea of multiple dimensions is part of a powerful new approach to physics called string theory. Many scientists regard string theory as the best prospect for unifying Einsteinian relativity with quantum mechanics. In its most famous form, so-called M theory, scientists tell us that reality is divided not into four but rather eleven dimensions, sions, ten of space and one of time.4 So where are the other dimensions? Well, string theorists say they are hidden dimensions, somehow positioned so that they are invisible and inaccessible to us. While we can’t see them, they help to account for the things that we do see.” (Dinesh D’Souza, Life After Death: The Evidence, 78 (Kindle Edition);Washington, D.C.; Regnery Publishing)

D’Sourza is not the only Christian apologist to discuss the existence of extra-dimensions, or of the importance of these matters to the subject of spiritual warfare.

Chuck Missler has provided an excellent illustration of how these matters relate to our spiritual state:

“We have a hard time conceiving of hyperspaces. Theoretical physicists try to explain them and produce ways to visualize them, but we have very little means to truly comprehend additional dimensions. There are only two kinds of people that can really deal with hyperspaces mathematicians with advanced training and small children. Small children seem to have no problem….Since it’s difficult for us to conceptualize additional dimensions, we will attempt to appreciate the situation by going the other way. We can easily conceptualize two- dimensional flat things because we are greater than they are. We are three- dimensional, and it’s much simpler for us to understand dimensionality by taking things down a level. I want to introduce two people, but I want you to be compassionate, because these two people have a serious handicap. Mr. and Mrs. Flat here live in only two dimensions…I want to credit Edwin Abbott’s 1884 book Flatland for this idea, because it gives us highly useful tools in dealing with dimensionality. Let’s take two pieces of paper and designate them as two separate 2D flatlander worlds. On one sheet we draw Mr. Flat and on the other we draw Mrs. Flat. Alone on their sheets of paper, these two individuals cannot see or hear or touch each other. Mrs. Flat doesn’t know that Mr. Flat’s paper exists, and she cannot conceive of leaving her two- dimensional space to get to him. We 3D beings have an advantage, though. We can look down at both of the Flats on their pieces of paper. We can see them, but they cannot look out to see us. They have no third dimension in order to see “out.” It is nothing for me to pick up Mrs. Flat and move her into Mr. Flat’s environment. As soon as I do it, she thinks a miracle has taken place; Mr. Flat appears before her. She doesn’t realize she has just gone through trans- dimensional travel. She doesn’t know she was dropped suddenly into another universe. It’s a trivial thing to us because we are three- dimensional, but her entire world has changed. It’s easy to see how powerful that extra dimension is. Something else here is very important. As a 3D being, I can be more intimate with Mr. Flat and with Mrs. Flat than they can be with each other.I can stand next to both of them even while they’re a world away from each other. They can’t see me or feel me, and yet I’m just a breath away from them, easily able to touch them at any time….We have the same difficulty in conceptualizing greater dimensions than our own. Still, we can use this illustration to see how beings in higher dimensions might interact with us without our comprehending the full reality of their existence.” (Chuck Missler, Beyond Time And Space, 342-375 (Kindle Edition); Coeur d’Alene, ID; Koinonia House).

Like the Bible teaches, the universe being discovered by science is more wondrous than we can imagine. There is indeed a spiritual war going on all around us of which we are all involved and entwined.

It is only through the Gospel of Christ that we can be victorious:

Revelation 12:7-12-And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought with the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought, 8 but they did not prevail, nor was a place found for them in heaven any longer. 9 So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. 10 Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, “Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down. 11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death. 12 Therefore rejoice, O heavens, and you who dwell in them! Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and the sea! For the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has a short time.”

Friends, will you not today turn your life to Jesus Christ? The Son of God loved you and died for your sins on Calvary (Romans 5:8). He was buried, and three days later, He arose from the dead (1 Corinthians 15:1-8).

Why not today repent of your sins as believers, confess Him before men, and be baptized into Him to have your sins washed away by the blood of Christ (Acts 2:37-38; 8:37)?

If you are an erring child of God, why not repent of your sin and pray to the Lord for forgiveness (1 John 1:9)?

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen.
