It is written:
Psalm 119:24-Your testimonies also are my delight And my counselors.
One of the great evidences that the Bible is the Word of God comes from it’s amazing supernatural unity. The diverse circumstances of the writing of the writing of the Bible stuns the imagination. One author documents:
“Nevertheless, this history cannot take priority over the claims found in the text that what is exhibited throughout both testaments is that both are the work of one divine mind, plan, and purpose for the whole. Even allowing for the obvious amounts of diversity, the Scriptures stand before us unparalleled by any other form of writing. To repeat a few of the facts once again: here are sixty-six books written in three different languages by forty human authors living in three different areas of the world—Africa, the Near East and Europe—over a period of 1,500 to 1,600 years. The heart of the book takes place right where east meets west so that it is neither exclusively an Oriental or an Occidental book. The coherence, unity, and progressiveness of the story of the promise-plan of God; the centrality of God’s call to Israel; and the focus on the death, resurrection, and second coming of Jesus Christ, with the supporting doctrines, make the Hebrew and Greek Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments one great unified message.” (Walter C. Kaiser Jr., Recovering the Unity of the Bible: One Continuous Story, Plan, and Purpose, 326-237 (Kindle Edition): Grand Rapids, MI: Zondervan)
Recently, some inmates asked me about the uniqueness of the Bible in our church jail ministry. One of the things that we discussed was how there are so many interwoven themes found in the Bible from beginning to end. The main one of course is found in Jesus Christ. We noticed how the first word of the Bible, “bereshit,” (Genesis 1:1, translated in English as “In the beginning,”), when examined actually proclaims, “The highest Sacrifice of God taking His own life on a cross.” Later in Genesis 5, the meaning names of the ten patriarchs (Adam, Seth, Enosh, Kenan, Mahalalel, Jared, Enoch, Methuselah, Lamech, Noah) tells us, “Man Is Appointed (To) Mortal Sorrow (But) The Blessed God Shall Come Down Teaching (And) His Death Will Bring The Brokenhearted Peace.”
Incredible!
The Bible is in a class by itself.
The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit, be with you all. Amen.
